Pregnancy can bring out the crazy in a woman. You start worrying about how every single little thing is affecting this teeny tiny thing growing inside you.
Is my dancing making it sea sick?
Will sex hurt the baby?
If I listen to country music will the baby come out wearing boots?
and
what can I eat while pregnant?
The first three questions are me being silly but that last one is serious. I mean, there are definitely some foods a pregnant woman should avoid and seafood is one to treat with caution. You don't want to eat shellfish, undercooked anything let alone seafood and avoid fish high in mercury.
Geez, it would just be easier to avoid seafood all together wouldn't it?
But a new study shows that avoiding seafood altogether can increase a pregnant woman's chances of depression. Some of the best types of fish to eat while pregnant include tuna, tilapia and salmon. Another benefit of eating fish while pregnant is a consumption of the very healthy Omega-3 fatty acids. These are the same fatty acids that aid in brain and eye development.
For an extensive list of studies on seafood and pregnancy visit healthy tuna.
I learned so much browsing that site.

Thanks for the link. I think eating these fish in moderation is okay.
Fish was the only thing that I craved during pregnancy! I had at least 5 to 6 servings a week. Mostly salmon broiled and sometimes fried fish from long john silvers (I'm sure there wasn't much nutrition in that!). Sometimes tuna, but really I craved the salmon with brown rice.
I also took my DHA/EPA everyday as well which is what you get from fresh fish. DHA/EPA is extremely important when you are pregnant. It helps develop the baby's brain.
I have a history of depression so it didn't surprise me that I craved fish since I knew baby was leaching out what he needed as well!
see, and now all you've done is made me hungry.. cause i LOVE me some tuna, lol!!!
That is some very important information. What I missed most while pregnant (besides wine of course) was sushi. Love that stuff but worth giving up!
Interesting. I heard Tuna was the one fish to avoid due to its high mercury content (especially white albacore). Sometimes I shake my head when reading the latest medical discovery as it seems they all say the opposite of each other. Good post.
